Appreciation Poems

Use the words in these appreciation poems to help express your thanks for people and things in your life.

A Day Will Come
Poet: Julie Hebert, © 2012

A day will come in every life,
When appreciation is rendered.
And this should be taken seriously,
And given with love and tender.

Anyone who deserves appreciation,
Must have done something great.
So share with them the way you feel,
And always treat them right.

But keep in mind that appreciation,
Should be given again and again.
If you truly appreciate,
You'll remind them how great they've been.

Do something special to thank the ones,
Who've made a difference to you.
But don't forget to thank them again,
For everything they do.

"Look around you and be thankful
for what you have, appreciate life."

Appreciation Quotes, Sayings, Messages

Your Smile
Poet: Julie Hebert, © 2012

Your smile lights my way through life,
And keeps me warm inside.
It reminds me that people are good,
Especially when their snide.

Your smile helps me though each day,
Knowing I'll soon see if again.
It even makes me want to smile,
Even when I'm in pain.

Your smile can take my moods away,
And help me to see it another way.
It reminds me not too take things so hard,
And so seriously every day.

Your smile I am so very thankful,
And moreso, for you as well.
You always know just what to say,
And never let me dwell.

So thank you so much for all your smiles,
And for loving me each day.
Life can be very tough but thankfully,
I've got you to help shine my way.

Thanksgiving Quotes

How Lovely Are The Old
Poet: Wilhelmina Stitch

How lovely are the old whose years add grace;
Whose years are special gems for their adorning;
Who wear their age a beauty wears fine lace;
Who are as evening's peace to youths' bright morning.

How lovely are the old who are as strings
Of some rare, perfect instrument;
Who make sweet harmony the while life sings,
Playing the measure of a sweet content.

How lovely is the gratitude that flows
From hearts grown tender with the passing years
Tto those who serve with love until life's close,
With love that heals sharp pain and dries hot tears.

How lovely are the old when they relate
The things they did and thought long, long ago.
From them we learn to laugh at hostile fate.
We draw fresh courage from their spirit's glow.

How lovely are the old who string their days
On memory's entrancing golden thread;
Whose words are like a daily song of praise
For what is past and what still lies ahead.

Keep Them Close
Poet Unkown
(thanks to Mary Jane for submitting)

One day a mother died.
And on that clear, cold morning,
in the warmth of her bedroom,
the daughter was struck with
the pain of learning that sometimes
there isn't any more.

No more hugs, no more lucky moments to celebrate together,
no more phone calls just to chat, no more "just one minute."

Sometimes, what we care about the most goes away,
never to return before we can say goodbye, say "I Love You."

So while we have it - it's best we love it .
And care for it and fix it when it's broken
and take good care of it when it's sick.

This is true for marriage - and friendships!
And children with bad report cards;
and dogs with bad hips;
and aging parents and grandparents.
We keep them because they are worth it,
because we cherish them!

Some things we keep -
like a best friend who moved away
or a classmate we grew up with.
There are just some things that
make us happy, no matter what.

Life is important, and so are the people we know.
And so, keep them close!

Quotes about Life

Excerpt from "Feeling Your Way Through Life"
David DeNotaris

Enjoy whats around you, and use all your senses.
Appreciate the white, puffy clouds in the sky;
some people can't see them.
Appreciate the sounds of the birds singing;
some people can't hear them.
Appreciate the sweet fragrance of a rain shower or a blooming flower;
some people can't smell them.
Appreciate the food you eat;
some people don't have it or cannot taste it.
I believe that gratitude can change our attitude.

Words of Encouragement

Past It On
Poet: Julie Hebert, © 2018

To thank someone as kind as you,
Would take a lot of thought.
But thankfully I've come to find,
You're not in need of a lot.

You don't like presents or anything new,
You don't even need a card.
You prefer your appreciations to be something of helpfulness,
For someone else's regard.

Your belief is great that someone else should benefit,
From a deed well done.
With this I can see how great you have been,
To always be helping someone.

So here we are to give our thanks,
To someone we are grateful for.
May you receive everything you deserve,
We hope and pray you get much more.

with the night falling we are saying thank you
we are stopping on the bridges to bow from the railings
we are running out of the glass rooms
with our mouths full of food to look at the sky
and say thank you
we are standing by the water thanking it
standing by the windows looking out
in our directions

back from a series of hospitals back from a mugging
after funerals we are saying thank you
after the news of the dead
whether or not we knew them we are saying thank you

over telephones we are saying thank you
in doorways and in the backs of cars and in elevators
remembering wars and the police at the door
and the beatings on stairs we are saying thank you
in the banks we are saying thank you
in the faces of the officials and the rich
and of all who will never change
we go on saying thank you thank you

with the animals dying around us
our lost feelings we are saying thank you
with the forests falling faster than the minutes
of our lives we are saying thank you
with the words going out like cells of a brain
with the cities growing over us
we are saying thank you faster and faster
with nobody listening we are saying thank you
we are saying thank you and waving
dark though it is

Funeral Poetry for Mom

We had a wonderful mother,
One who never really grew old;
Her smile was made of sunshine,
And her heart was solid gold;
Her eyes were as bright as shining stars,
And in her cheeks fair roses you see.
We had a wonderful mother,
And that’ s the way it will always be.
But take heed, because
She’s still keeping an eye on all of us,
So let’s make sure
She will like what she sees.

Gone From Us …

Gone from us that smiling face,
The cheerful pleasant ways,
The heart that won so many friends,
In bygone, happy days.

A life made beautiful by kindly deeds,
A helping hand for others’ needs.
To a beautiful life,
Comes a happy end,
She died as she lived,
Everyone’s friend.

….Who She Was

The memories of the past are vague
The hurts are forever and forgiven
What I have today is what there is forever
And those are the memories of all I have to hold on to.

In my mind I remember a face – one of beauty
One with rarely a frown
And almost always a smile

Never a harsh word – just a kind gentle smile
I hear her voice as she says kind words to all who she knew
The words were always soft
And they were who she was
I will forever hear her say “Hi Honey” soft and gentle was her voice

In the air I breathe
I know she is there
To guide and protect all who she loved
I will forever be grateful
I was born through her to love
I am now who she was

More Funeral Poems for Mom:

You can only have one mother

You can only have one mother
Patient kind and true;
No other friend in all the world,
Will be the same to you.
When other friends forsake you,
To mother you will return,
For all her loving kindness,
She asks nothing in return.
As we look upon her picture,
Sweet memories we recall,
Of a face so full of sunshine,
And a smile for one and all.
Sweet Jesus, take this message,
To our dear mother up above;
Tell her how we miss her,
And give her all our love.

The Watcher

She always leaned to watch for us
Anxious if we were late,
In winter by the window,
In summer by the gate.

And though we mocked her tenderly
Who had such foolish care,
The long way home would seem more safe,
Because she waited there.

Her thoughts were all so full of us,
She never could forget,
And so I think that where she is
She must be watching yet.

Waiting ‘til we come home to her
Anxious if we are late
Watching from Heaven’s window
Leaning from Heaven’s gate.

For all the times you gently picked me up

For all the times you gently picked me up,
When I fell down,
For all the times you tied my shoes
And tucked me into bed,
Or needed something
But put me first instead.

For everything we shared,
The dreams, the laughter,
And the tears,
I love you with a Special Love
That deepens every year.

Thank You Mom

Tributes to Mother at her Funeral

You can shed tears that she is gone
or you can smile because she has lived

You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all she’s left

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember her and only that she’s gone
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
or you can do what she’d want:
open your eyes,
and go on.

The Magic of a Mother’s Touch

There’s magic in a Mother’s touch,
and sunshine in her smile.
There’s love in everything she does
to make our lives worthwhile.
We can find both hope and courage
Just by looking in her eyes.
Her laughter is a source of joy,
her works are warm and wise.
There is a kindness and compassion
to be found in her embrace,
and we see the light of heaven
shining from a Mother’s face.

What is a Mom?

A mom is one of life’s best gifts,
Someone to treasure all life through,
She’s caring and loving,
Thoughtful and true,
Someone who is always a special part of your life,
Someone who holds a prime place in your heart,
She’s a mentor, a confident and also a friend,
Someone on whose love you can depend.
A mom always has your best interests at heart,
She’s someone so dear and so good,
She’s a blessing, she’s a gift,
She’s a treasure like no other,
She’s someone that is truly wonderful.
Wherever you go, and whatever you do,
A mom’s love will always see you through,
A mom is truly invaluable,
Indispensable and unforgettable.
I wouldn’t want anyone but you,
And that’s why I’m so grateful,
that life picked you for me.

As We Look Back

As we look back over time
We find ourselves wondering …..
Did we remember to thank you enough
For all you have done for us?
For all the times you were by our sides
To help and support us …..
To celebrate our successes
To understand our problems
And accept our defeats?
Or for teaching us by your example,
The value of hard work, good judgement,
Courage and integrity?
We wonder if we ever thanked you
For the sacrifices you made.
To let us have the very best?
And for the simple things
Like laughter, smiles and times we shared?
If we have forgotten to show our
Gratitude enough for all the things you did,
We’re thanking you now.
And we are hoping you knew all along,
How much you meant to us.

If flowers grow in heaven

If flowers grow in heaven,
Lord, then pick a bunch for me.
Then place them in my mother’s arms
and tell her they’re from me.
Tell her that I love and miss her
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for awhile.

You fed me well, you made me strong
You taught me to know right from wrong
You made me feel that I belong
You showed me the value of a song

You gave me life, you gave me love

You always knew the way I feel
You used the words you thought might heal
You convinced me it was no big deal
Your advice would keep it real

You gave me life, you gave me love

Broken hearts you liked to mend
It was not in your nature to offend
Birthday cards you’d always send
You knew the value of family and friends

You give me life, you give me love

You left me now, you’ve gone away
I’m left behind, I have to stay
So I’ll just have to pray
I’ll meet you again another day

You always had that ‘special touch’
I loved you so very, very much

You gave me life, you gave me love
Please watch over me from above.

To Those Whom I Love and Those Who Love Me

When I am gone, release me, let me go
I have so many things to see and do
You must not tie yourself to me with tears
Be happy that I have had so many years

I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave me in happiness
I think you for the love each have shown
But now it is time I traveled on alone

So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust
It is only for a while that we must part
So bless the memories in your heart

I will not be far away, for life goes on
So if you need me, call and I will come
Though you can not see or touch me, I will be near
And if you listen with your heart, you will hear
All of my love around you soft and clear

Then, when you must come this way alone
I will greet you with a smile and a

Thank You Poems for Parents: Parents make all kinds of sacrifices to give their kids a good life until they grow up. If you have never taken out the time to appreciate what your parents have done for you, do it now. Don’t wait for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day to show your gratitude. Start by giving them a sweet greeting card with a thank you poem written on it. Follow it up by showing them a slideshow of your cute childhood pictures. Seeing what a beautiful childhood you had will make them nostalgic and teary-eyed. It won’t take much to say thanks and tell them that you are the luckiest son and daughter in the world. Something as simple as walking upto your mom and dad to give them a cute hug will make them happy. Show the world that you love your parents by sharing a touching quote on Facebook or tagging them in a beautiful family photo.

1) I love you both

Dear mom and dad

I can never bear

To see you sad

I will protect you

From hurt and pain

I will never give you

A chance to complain

For you have done

The same for me

Now it’s my turn

To make you happy

Thank you

2) Dear mom and dad….

Thank you for being there

Thank you for all your care

Thank you for your advice

Thank you for being so nice

Thank you for your guidance

Thank you for your patience

Thank you for your perfect DNA

Thank you for letting me grow up my way

Thank you for everything

Without you both, I’d be nothing

3) From the time you changed my nappy

To the things you did to make me happy

From the time you helped me crawl

To the time I grew and became tall

From the time you helped me in school

To the time you got me nice clothes to look cool

There isn’t anything you haven’t done for me

To have you as my parents, I am very lucky

Thank you

4) When I wanted to climb higher

You became my ladder

When I wanted some support

You both came together

When I wanted to fly high

You became my hot air balloon

When everything felt cursed

You appeared as my boon

I rested on your shoulders

When I wanted a better view

To parents who’ve done everything

I want to say thank you

5) I don’t need Father’s Day

To say I love you dad

Buying gifts on Mother’s Day

Is just another fad

Giving thanks to my parents

Each and every day

Is how I’ll express my gratitude

For showing me the way

Thank you

6) If an angel lived in this world

Mom, it would be you

No other person can be

So pure and true

I have never seen God

But He must be like dad

Who always makes me smile

And can’t bear to see me sad

Thanks to both of you

For being so wonderful

I love you both for making

My life so beautiful

7) Even if I hugged you everyday

Even if I gave you a kiss

Even if I made you smile

And filled your life full of bliss

I wouldn’t be able to match

Everything you’ve done for me

The only way I’ll try to repay you

Is by keeping you both happy

8) Get off my back

Is what I would have said

Using those words now

I wouldn’t be caught dead

Leave me alone

I would have said years ago

Such disrespect again

I would never show

Because I realize

The importance and value

Of having wonderful

Parents like you

9) Instead of using a box

To give you a present

I want to use nice words

As a thank you token

You both as parents

Are truly irreplaceable

Thanks for making me life

So incredible

10) The wallpaper of my iPhone

Is a picture of dad holding me

My laptop’s screensaver

Is mom smiling widely

I like to keep you close

Even when you aren’t around

Imagine how much love

In you both, I have found

Thanks for making my life

A warm and tender cocoon

You are not just my parents

In my life, you are a boon

Thank you

11) All parents should be like you

Cool, friendly and liberal

They should know how to make

Their children feel special

All parents should act like you

In a way which is chilled out

They should be examples

Of what parenting is all about

All children like me should have

Parents like you so perfect

Only then they will feel from within

For their parents, love and respect

12) Whenever I needed you

You were just a call away

Even though I held the phone

And had nothing to say

You both always understood

Whenever I wanted to cry

To explain my problems

I never had to try

Thanks for always being there

For watching my back

Without parents like you

My life wouldn’t be on track

Thank you

13) Through all my worries

All my stress

Through all my hassles

All the mess

Because of you

I stayed afloat

That is the reason

I want to thank you both

14) So many sacrifices

You both must have made

A big price for my happiness

You both must have paid

Thanks for being the parents

Who are the epitomes

Of what every mom and dad

Should ideally be

15) Dear mom and dad….

You both gave me

My real education

You both inspired me

To have ambition

You both told me

That the sky is my limit

For success and victory

You made me fit

Whatever I am today

Is because of you two

My gratefulness

Is highly overdue

Thank you

16) I can live a day

Without eating out

I can do without my iPhone

Without a doubt

I can make do if I don’t

Meet my best buddy

I can survive without

Watching a movie

But I can’t do without

Meeting you every day

Thanks for everything

Is all that I want to say

17) I had a perfect childhood

Life was amazing in my teens

In college, I was happier

More than I had ever been

A well settled grown up

I went on to become

Thanks to you, mom and dad

My life has been awesome

18) Mommy, daddy

I want you to know

You guys are the best

Go on and take a bow

I want to thank you both

For today I realize

Having you in my life

Is nothing less than a prize

19) Thank you mom

For doing all that you could for me

Thank you dad

For always making me happy

Thank you both

For always supporting me

Without you, I would

Be in total agony

20) Thanks for never instructing me

To tell me what I should do

Thanks for showing me by example

That I should be like you

Thanks for never nagging me

For doing things your way

Thanks for being so patient

And keeping arguments at bay

Thanks for being the ideal parents

By giving me so much independence

I don’t know where I would be

Without your helpful guidance

21) People come and people go

In life like changing weather

Friends, foes and colleagues

Along with many others

But the only people in life

Who remain constant

Are parents like you who believe

Their kids to be the most important

Thank you

22) I don’t think I can ever pay off

Whatever you have done for me till today

I don’t think I can ever give back

Whatever you have given me along the way

I don’t think I can ever manage to return

All your help, guidance and favors

Without your support, I don’t think

I could have ever been a winner

Thank you

23) Whether I pleaded like a kid

To take me to the candy store

Whenever I cried out fowl

That my life was such a big bore

Whenever I asked you to increase

My weekly allowance

Whenever I did crazy things

To make you run out of patience

Whenever I complained that you

Didn’t allow me to watch enough TV

I didn’t know that my best interest

Is what you both wanted to see

But now that I understand

How you both were always right

I want to thank you mom and dad

With all my energy and might

24) So many things

Wouldn’t have turned out well

So many life plans

Wouldn’t have been so swell

So many of dreams

Wouldn’t have come true

If it wasn’t for the support

Given by you

So much of life’s purpose

Would have been unfulfilled

If good values and morals

You wouldn’t have instilled

Thank you mom and dad

For whatever you have done

It is because of you

That I have always won

25) I’ve harassed you

To no end

Even then you’ve always

Been my friends

I’ve bothered you

To no limits

Even then you’ve been

With me every bit

I’ve troubled you

At so many instances

Even they you’ve showered

Only hugs and kisses

You’re the best parents

Dear mom and dad

The kind that other kids

Would never have had

26) It isn’t an easy job

To think of different ways

To thank your mom and dad

Who’ve supported you always

It isn’t an easy thing

To thank them in a manner

Which is superlative

Like no other

It isn’t an easy task

To thank them in a style

So beautiful that it puts

On their faces, a sweet smile

It is because they are

People who’ve done a lot

They’re impossible to thank

For all that they’ve taught

Thank you

27) The reason I feel so blessed

As if I’m sent straight from the Heavens

The reason I feel so fortunate

Like being one in a million

The reason why I feel lucky

For getting everything I ever need

The reason why I feel happy

For never suffering indeed

Is because of parents like you

So strong and supportive

Without you so happily

I wouldn’t have been able to live

28) The biggest gift

That you both gave me

Was to always

Keep me happy

In return, a present

That I will give you

Is a heartfelt thanks

Without much ado

29) Saying thanks to you

Is a task which is useless

For it’s impossible to thank parents

Who’ve given me so much happiness

It would take me hours and weeks

To come up with a thought

Of how I could show gratitude

And say that I thank you a lot

30) My life could not

Get any sweeter

It also could not

Get any better

My life would not

Be as super

If I didn’t have you

As my father and mother

Thank you

7 Inspiring Poems for My Son in Prison to Smile About

September 06, 2016

According to a statistics-based article by Prison Legal News, “studies have consistently found that prisoners who maintain close contact with their family members while incarcerated have better post-release outcomes and lower recidivism rates.”

There are a variety of ways to stay in contact with your loved one. Apart from visitation for inmates, letters are a welcomed form of communication for those serving a sentence. You might consider creating a book out of the poems, and including notes or poems of your own.

You could include the poems individually along with other things to send inmates in a care package.

Use the poems below to create an “Inspiring poems for my son in prison” collection.

Happiest Moment

Author Unknown

The happiest moments of my life
I owe to you entirely
Without you I would’ve been
So sad and lonely
The best memories of my life
Will always bear your name
For after you were born
My life was never the same
I love you son

To My Son

Author: Amy R. Campbell

Oh, how the years go by,
Oh, how time can certainly fly.
From once just a thought in far away dreams,
now into my arms and in my eyes gleam
the presence of you.
Your laughter and smiles,
which go on for miles,
warm my heart and soul.
You’re growing up so fast,
as I wish each moment with you to forever last.
My little boy will someday be a man,
and right by your side I will forever stand.
I will pick up the pieces when you fall.
I will hold your hand and help you stand tall.
And when the day comes when you are on your own,
never feel that you are alone.
No matter how near or far apart,
I am always right there in your heart.
Always remember whatever you go through
that no matter what, I will always love you.

Author Unknown

Time has gone so swiftly
years went rushing past ..
My Son you have matured
and grown up so very fast.
Let me take time out to to say
just how much you mean ..
I’m thankful for every moment
and each day that we have seen.
Lets always make a special time
and always keep in touch ..
My Son you are the very best
and I love you so much.

Missing You

Author: Mary E. Ferstler

I miss my son
who used to be
who cared about himself
and his family

Never one to show his
feelings openly
He was always there
When I needed him to be

We have been through
so much over the years
Anger, joy and so many

I know I didn’t always
do the right thing
was not always good
at mothering

I knew that I could never
go back and
fix all the wrongs
So I worked very hard
to set a new track

I tried to show you
the sunshine
and hope
and how great life can be
When you take it on

But when it came your
turn to choose
You chose the path
without any rules

I know it’s dark
and it will
empty your soul

But always remember
You can still come

Never Unsaid

Author: Valerie Capasso

I never want this to go unsaid,

So here in this poem is for it to be said.
There are no words to express how much you mean to me,
A son like you, I thought could never be.
Because the day you were born, I just knew,
God sent me a blessing- and that was you.
For this I thank Him every day.
You are the true definition of a son, in every way.
It is because of you that my life has meaning.
Becoming a mom has shown me a new sense of being.
I want you to know that you were the purpose of my life,
Out of everything I did- it was you that I did right.
Always remember that I know how much you care,
I can tell by the relationship that we share.
For a son like you there could be no other,
And whether we are together or apart,
Please do not ever forget-
You will always have a piece of my heart.

End of a Journey

Author: Ken Budden

The end of your journey is now in sight,
And from the darkness you can now see light,
I know it’s been tough, but I’m hoping you know,
From that hard bitter lesson, “You reap what you sow”.

I wrote a letter each week all through the years,
To try and dispel your earlier fears,
That friends would forget you, never want you again,
And I know it happened…wish I could spare you the pain.

For those who forsook you, give them no thought,
They were never true friends and never your sort,
Start a new life, you’ve gone from “boy to a man,”
And you know I will help you as much as I can.

But you’re coming home stronger and wiser I feel,
All your heartaches and heartbreaks will eventually heal,
You have a young son who will need you each day,
And I know you will love him in the best possible way.

It’s going to be hard, I’ll not lie to you,
But manners and humility will see you through,
Do not be afraid to ask for advice,
That’s what I’m here for and “cheap at the price.”

Temptations will come, but it’s time to be strong,
Just remember the first time and what you did wrong,
Do you really want to be locked up again?
And put friends and loved ones through more terrible pain?

I am not so religious as I really should be,
I only pray in an emergency,
But He’ll answer my prayers and those of my friend,
And see your life through to a fruitful end.

Just want you to know, Son, I will always be here,
I will never forsake you, I love you so dear,
One day I will be gone, but these words will remain,
And if ever in doubt please read them again.

I Hope You Know How Much I Love You

Author: Rita Luna

To My Son,
I hope you know how much I love you so.
I might embarrass you from time to time
By giving lots of love and needless kisses,
But you need to know Mom loves you so.
Before you were born I didn’t know
Just how much I would love you so,
But when I looked into your eyes for the first time,
I felt my heart grow and grow.
A Mother’s love is hard to explain,
Not everyone will feel the same.
Now that you are getting older I felt the need to tell you
Just how much I love you so.
Time may pass day after day or year after year,
But the love I have for you grows
nearer and dearer to my heart each day and year.
To my son, I hope you know just how much I love you so.
